Border Patrol stopped two human smuggling attempts at Laredo Sector checkpoints

LAREDO, Texas – Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents stopped two human smuggling attempts at checkpoints.

 On Feb. 20, Border Patrol agents from the Laredo West Station while working their assigned duties at the U.S. Highway 83 checkpoint, encountered a tractor-trailer at the primary inspection lane when a Service canine alerted to the tractor.  Border Patrol agents subsequently referred the driver to secondary. After further inspection at secondary, Border Patrol agents discovered three individuals attempting to conceal themselves inside the sleeper area of the tractor. Record checks revealed that the individuals were in the country illegally. They were from the country of Mexico. The driver and undocumented individuals were taken into custody and processed accordingly. 

On Feb. 19, Border Patrol agents working at the I-35 checkpoint encountered a tractor-trailer at the primary inspection lane. During an immigration inspection of the driver, a Service canine alerted agents to the cab of the tractor. After further inspection, agents discovered 29 individuals inside the cab. The individuals and the driver were escorted into the checkpoint for processing. Record checks revealed that the individuals were in the country illegally and from Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala.
