HAVRE DE GRACE, MD – Maryland law requires taxidermists to keep detailed records to state officials to protect wildlife species from illegal poaching.

An Havre De Grace taxidermist was charged this week by Marland Natural Resources Police officers for failing to maintain proper records.

According to the Maryland Natural Resources Police, officers conducted an inspection at Brush Wolf, a Taxidermy shop owned by Stephanie Anne Lee, 50, of Havre de Grace, on March 1st.

“During their inspection, they located multiple animals and animal parts that were tagged but not properly labeled or recorded. Maryland law states that a taxidermist must maintain detailed records of all specimens they receive in accordance with the Department of Natural Resources,” DNRP said in a statement. “They must also have them readily available for the inspection conducted by NRP Officers. Ten animals were improperly tagged and recorded in Lee’s taxidermy log books. These animals included ducks, deer/deer parts, a fox, a turkey, and an owl.”

Police charged Lee a total of ten times for “Taxidermist or Fur Tanner Licensee failure to maintain records.” If convicted, she faces up to $5,000 in fines.
