Student arrested with gun at Sussex Central High School

GEORGETOWN, DE – Police have filed charges against a student who brought a gun to a Delaware high school on Wednesday.

A 16-year-old student at Sussex Central High School in Georgetown was arrested after he was found with a handgun on school grounds.

A school resource officer at Sussex Central High School was notified by staff at approximately 9:00 a.m. that a student had a firearm at the school.


A trooper removed the student from his classroom after contacting him. Inside his backpack, police found an unloaded handgun and ammunition. The gun was confiscated without incident, and he was taken into custody. There were no injuries to students or staff, and the school day continued as usual.

Upon his arrest, the teenager was taken to Troop 4 and charged with Possession of a Weapon in a Safe School Zone (Felony). He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released on an unsecured bond of $2,500.
