NEW YORK, NY – The New York City Police Department has charged Michael Hosein, 32, with murder in connection with the death of a woman inside her Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment this week.

Police said Hosein was the boyfriend of Kelly Kwak, an aspiring nurse.

Police in Brooklyn are investigating a homicide after a woman was found beaten and unresponsive inside her apartment in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

On Friday, the body of Kelly Kwak was found inside 218 Gates Avenue, apartment # 1A, while conducting a wellness check on her. Hosein answered the door, telling responding officers he had “taken a lot of pills” according to sources.

EMS arrived to treat Kwak, but she was unconscious and unresponsive. She had visible signs of trauma on her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine Ms. Kwak’s cause of death.

Kwak was a student at Queensboro Community College.

Hosein was arrested on scene and taken to Woodhull Hospital for psychiatric evaluation before being arrested today.

Kwak was a resident at the Gibb Mansion, a historic site redeveloped by the city and owned by wealthy 1800s businessman John Gibb. Dilapidated and boarded up in the 1990s, the city restored the building and turned it into an affordable housing project.
