Newark Man Arrested for Attempted Robbery of Wilmington Liquor Store

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE – Delaware State Police arrested 71-year-old John Austin of Newark, Delaware, for the attempted robbery of a Wilmington area liquor store on Monday night. On March 14th, troopers responded to Clifton Liquors located at 304 Edgemoor Road, Wilmington, for a late reported attempted robbery.

The investigation revealed that on the night of March 13th, at around 11:20 p.m., a male suspect approached an employee with a bag over his hand, implied he had a weapon, and demanded money from the cash register. The employee did not comply, and the suspect fled the scene. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Through further investigation, John Austin was identified as the suspect. On Monday, Austin was apprehended at his residence in Newark without incident. He was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, a felony, and later committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $60,000 cash bond.
