Frostburg Shooting Suspect Arrested, Charged with Attempted Murder

FROSTBURG, MD – On Friday, Frostburg Police responded to a shooting on Bowery Street near the intersection with McCulloh Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 38-year-old male victim who had fled to a nearby business for assistance, suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. The Frostburg resident was transported by ambulance to the emergency room at UPMC – Western Maryland for treatment of his injuries.

Officers quickly located a suspect nearby and were able to take him into custody. The handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered from the suspect at the time of arrest. The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) was contacted, and C3I investigators responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.

Numerous witnesses were interviewed, and investigators learned that there had been an altercation on Bowery Street between the suspect and the victim just prior to the shooting. The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Raeshaun Demonte Cody of Hyatsville, MD. He is being charged with attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault and is currently awaiting an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
