Pedestrian Fatality on Columbia Pike, Silver Spring: Victim Identified

SILVER SPRING, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Saturday, on Columbia Pike near Hillwood Drive in Silver Spring. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Zelalem Yirga Adamu, of Laurel.

At approximately 1:50 a.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a pedestrian struck. The investigation revealed that Adamu was struck by a red 2015 Lexus ES300h and a black 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee that were traveling northbound on Columbia Pike, just south of Hillwood Dr. The driver of the Lexus remained at the scene after the collision, while the driver of the Jeep left the scene and reported the collision hours later at a police station.
