Majority Of Planned Parenthood Facilities Are Located Within 5 Miles Of A College Campus, Report Finds

Planned Parenthood is targeting young people by placing a majority of their facilities within 5 miles of a college campus, Students for Life of America’s (SFLA) Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement claimed in a report published on Tuesday.

The report revealed that 87.6% of Planned Parenthood’s 563 facilities are located within 5 miles of a college campus, according to the report. This is an 8.6% increase since SFL conducted the study nearly 10 years ago.

“This demonstrates that the Gen Z demographic is being targeted as a customer of the abortion giant more than ever before, as the location of Planned Parenthood facilities appear inextricably tied to the location of a college campus,” the report reads.

Approximately 16% of the open facilities are operating in a state that has outlawed abortion and referring patients’ to abortion procedures in neighboring states, according to the report. All but three of those 59 facilities are located within 5 miles of a college campus.

“It’s painfully obvious that Planned Parenthood is preying on college students, and this is yet another reason that we need to defund the abortion giant,” Caroline Wharton, SFLA press strategist & staff writer, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “American taxpayers do not want to aid in the victimization of college-aged women as they are manipulated to their emotional/physical detriment to end the lives of their babies for the abortion industry’s profit.”

The lack of a supportive network and thin financial resources drive college students to consider abortion, the report reads. It recommends expanding pro-life outreach on college campuses and increasing community awareness of local pregnancy centers.

SFLA’s Campaign for Abortion Free Cities found in its first year that 73% of community members were unaware of local Pregnancy Help Centers, according to the report. The campaign increased awareness by 10% within one year by pushing online advertisements and through door-to-door messaging.

“Equipping students with their local life-affirming resources is the foundation needed for breaking trust with Planned Parenthood,” the report reads. “Success is found from these grassroots efforts, not from expecting state laws to eliminate abortion immediately.”

The research for the study was conducted between Jan. 1-31, according to its methodology section. Researchers determined the “general proximity” of the facilities by cross-referencing the addresses of Planned Parenthood locations with the addresses of 4,360 college campuses.

College campuses were defined “as a public or private four- year or two-year college or university” and included community colleges, the report clarified. Planned Parenthood locations were verified to be “open” by their website or Google Maps.

“The findings of this report also highlight the importance of the Pro-Life Generation’s work to bring life-affirming resources on campus, ” Wharton told the DCNF. “Young women in unplanned pregnancies should never feel that Planned Parenthood is the only place they can turn; instead, our student groups alongside our initiative StandingWithYou.com provide these women with resources and a support system that can be life-changing for her and life-saving for her baby.”

Planned Parenthood did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
