Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident on I-495 in Wilmington Area

WILMINGTON, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that took place yesterday afternoon on Interstate 495 near Wilmington. At around 5:34 p.m. on Sunday, a dark blue 2006 Volvo S70 veered off the right side of the southbound lane and struck a tree near the fence line separating I-495 from Governor Printz Boulevard.

The driver, a 60-year-old man from Philadelphia, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family is notified. No other vehicles were involved in the collision. Traffic was disrupted for approximately five hours while the scene was investigated and cleared. Witnesses are urged to contact Sergeant J. Jefferson at 302-365-8484.
