BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ – Newly selected Brick Township Mayor Lisa Crate has submitted her first annual budget for review by the township council and its promising a zero percent tax increase.
At the March 28th meeting, Crate introduced her 2023 municipal budget.
“This budget reflects my hopes as it provides the funds for the services and programs that make Brick Township what I consider to be the best place in New Jersey to live,” said Mayor Crate. “Our beautiful beaches. The Brick Farmers Market. The Senior Shuttle Bus Service and Dialysis Transportation. SummerFest. Our exceptional Police Department and all of our first responders. Everyday services like sanitation and recycling collection. Beautiful parks. This year’s budget funds these services while keeping Brick Township on the path that will continue to keep it an affordable place to live and raise a family.”
The Township’s portion of the property tax bill is the partcontrolled by the Mayor and Council. It equals roughly 30% of your property tax bill. This is the portion that pays for the Brick Township Police, EMTs, dispatchers, senior programs, recreation programs, Public Works services and all other municipal services. The Council will now review the budget and vote on its adoption at their April 25 meeting.
“Tonight, I am proud to say that this year’s budget calls for no increase in the local purpose tax rate. As we prepared this year’s budget, I felt it was important to recognize the financial hardships that the residents of Brick Township have been dealing with due to the current economic climate and inflationary increases in our nation. I did not want to add to those hardships, so I worked with our financial team to produce a budget that did not increase the tax rate.”
Also, during the meeting, Melissa Travers was sworn in as Brick Township’s newest Council member. The Council selected Councilwoman Travers to fill the seat vacancy created when Lisa Crate was chosen to serve as Mayor.
The township reports that Councilwoman Travers is a resident of the Herbertsville section of Brick Township where her and her husband, Ryan, are raising their sons. She is a registered nurse with 12 years of experience and is currently in the process of earning her Master’s Degree.
