TOMS RIVER, NJ – Police in Toms River are investigating a potential threat at Toms River High School South on Thursday. The threat comes as other districts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania received similar threats.

The Toms River Police Department is taking the matter seriously and conducting an investigation.

“We are aware of a potential threat to High School South circulating social media this evening. We are working with the school administration and county law enforcement and are thoroughly investigating the matter to ensure the safety of all students and staff,” the department said.

School officials confirmed the threat, sending an email to parents regarding the incident.

“We’ve become aware of Snapchat posts that threaten High School South tomorrow, Thursday, March 30. Our administrative team is currently working alongside county and local law enforcement to investigate these threats and determine their legitimacy,” the district said in the email. “We ask for your patience and understanding as we continue this investigation.”

The threat comes days after six people were killed at a Christian school in Nashville.

Some responded to the police department’s message regarding the incident on social media saying they may just keep their children at home tomorrow in light of the situation.
