MILLSBORO, DE – Yesterday, Delaware State Police arrested 19-year-old Tahvon Hughes of Philadelphia, PA, after he fled from a traffic stop in a stolen 2018 gray BMW X5. At approximately 10:50 a.m., troopers responded to Gravel Hill Road near Zoar Road regarding the stolen vehicle that was traveling through the area. BMW was able to provide GPS coordinates to police dispatchers, and a trooper spotted the car heading southbound on Gravel Hill Road.

Troopers attempted to stop the BMW on Gravel Hill Road south of Mount Joy Road, but Hughes sped away, leading officers on a high-speed chase through Millsboro, Milton, and Milford. A State Police helicopter joined the pursuit and maintained visual contact with the stolen car. Hughes eventually stopped the BMW on Coastal Highway just north of Sharps Road and turned the vehicle off. He was taken into custody without incident.

The BMW was confirmed to have been reported as stolen by the Philadelphia Police Department earlier that day. Hughes was transported to Troop 4 and charged with Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500 (Felony), Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony), and numerous traffic charges. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $4,150 cash bond.
