Pittsburgh Man Arrested on Multiple Firearms Charges After Standoff

PITTSBURGH, PA – Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced today the arrest of 28-year-old Carlos Hart, who was wanted on multiple firearms warrants. Hart failed to appear earlier this month for two non-jury trials involving firearms charges before Judge Anthony Mariani and was suspected of violating probation on another case involving robbery and firearms convictions.

Earlier this week, detectives from the Sheriff’s office developed information that Hart was inside a residence along Collins Avenue in East Liberty. When detectives approached the residence on Wednesday, they discovered Hart hiding in the attic. Initially, Hart resisted the calls from detectives to surrender and threatened to shoot them if they attempted to arrest him.

After nearly 30 minutes of negotiation, Hart agreed to come down from the attic and was taken into custody without further incident. A subsequent search of the attic revealed a loaded firearm, which has led to additional charges against Hart. He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail, where he will await further legal proceedings.

The swift and coordinated efforts of law enforcement ensured the peaceful resolution of a potentially dangerous situation. The Pittsburgh community can rest assured that their safety remains a top priority for the Sheriff’s office and local law enforcement agencies.
