JACKSON, NJ – Two days after a storm ripped through northern Ocean County and southern Ocean County, several thousand homes in Jackson and Howell remain without power. JCP&L said today many of those without power won’t be restored until around midnight tonight.

JCP&L estimates about 2,000 homes are still without power today in the region.

In Jackson, the American Red Cross is offering assistance. A Red Cross truck was parked in front of town hall Sunday night, distributing water to residents affected by a tornado that touched down in the area of West Commodore Boulevard.

Officials have also set up a ‘shelter in place’ facility at the Senior Center located on Don Connor Boulevard for anyone who may need it.

The National Weather Service is still investigating the damage to determine the strength of the tornado. Other tornados in the region were registered as EF-1 tornados with winds up to 100 mph based on damage. The NWS said details regarding the Jackson and Howell tornados will be released later today.

Jackson Township declared a state of emergency on Sunday after the storm caused major damage to homes and businesses. The inflatable dome at Adventure Crossing USA’s Top Golf entertainment center collapsed and a building under construction on West Commodore Boulevard had also collapsed during the storm.

Several roads in the northern part of Jackson remained closed as crews continued clearing debris and restoring power. Traffic lights at many major intersections in Jackson remained without power late into the evening on Sunday.

The Jackson Township Board of Education canceled classes for all students on Monday.

A freezer truck has been deployed to the Jackson Police Department to allow residents to keep their food and perishables cold until power is restored.
