BROOKLYN, NY – Jun Zhang, 59, has been sentenced today to 17 years in prison for the vicious 2016 attack on his ex-girlfriend, during which he beat and stabbed her, and slashed her throat. Zhang fled New York but was arrested in California in 2021 and convicted at trial last month.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez praised the survivor’s courage, stating she survived the life-altering assault due to her will to live for her children.

The attack took place inside Relax Spa, a massage parlor in Sunset Park, managed by the victim and Zhang. According to the evidence, Zhang accused the victim of cheating on him, subjected her to hours of abuse, and left her for dead.

The victim managed to escape and was rushed to the hospital, where she received treatment for extensive injuries.

Zhang was sentenced to 17 years in prison and five years’ post-release supervision. He was convicted of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. A 30-year full order of protection was issued.
