PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – In the early hours of Sunday, a man was found shot to death behind Harpers Pub in Port St. Lucie. Port St. Lucie police have confirmed that this was a targeted shooting and not a random act of violence. The victim, who has not been named, was found with apparent gunshot wounds in the roadway on Southeast Greendon Avenue behind the pub.

Police officers were called to the scene after reports of the shooting at around 2:02 a.m. A motorcycle was seen fleeing the area, which led to a pursuit by police into Martin County after the driver refused to stop. The driver was taken into custody on Southwest Citrus Boulevard.

Criminal Investigations Division detectives and crime scene investigators have responded to the scene, and the investigation is active. Anyone with information about this case is urged to call detectives at 772-871-5001 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS.

Jerry Whitcomb, who lives near the tavern, expressed his concern about the increasing crime rate in the area. “I’d like to say ‘wow, I’m surprised’ but since we moved down to this area from up north, just watching the news, there’s more and more crime, shootings. I just think that there’s not any place that’s safe. It can happen anywhere,” he said.
