Ongoing Investigation into Soldiers Delight Wildfire Calls for Public Assistance

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD – The Office of the State Fire Marshal, along with the Maryland State Forest Service, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Baltimore County Police Department Fire Investigation Division, and the Baltimore City Environmental Police, is conducting a joint investigation into a wildfire that consumed nearly 700 acres around Soldiers Delight Natural Environmental Area. The fire began on Friday, and continued into the following day, leading to the evacuation of dozens of families.

Investigators are now seeking assistance from the public, specifically from anyone who was in the area of the serpentine trail of Soldiers Delight Overlook between 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Friday, or behind the visitor center on Sunday afternoon. Over 200 personnel were involved in the response to the eight-alarm fire, marking the largest response in Baltimore County since a major fire at a propane facility in the 1970s, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.

Anyone with information about the wildfire is urged to contact the Office of the State Fire Marshal at 410-386-3050. All tips will remain confidential.
