NEWARK, N.J. – Wyzier Peterson, a 25-year-old man from Paterson, New Jersey, was sentenced on Wednesday to 150 months in prison for distributing fentanyl that caused the death of another person. Peterson was found guilty of supplying the fentanyl-laced heroin that led to the fatal overdose of a 23-year-old individual in April 2022.

During the investigation, law enforcement officials discovered that Peterson was part of a larger drug distribution network operating in the Passaic County area.

Peterson was charged with one count of distributing a controlled substance resulting in death, to which he pleaded guilty.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Martinotti sentenced Peterson to three years of supervised release, emphasizing the importance of addressing the opioid crisis and holding dealers accountable for their actions.

The judge also ordered Peterson to undergo a substance abuse treatment program and cooperate with any additional requirements set forth by the court.
