Registered offender guilty of crimes against child in Cheektowaga

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY – Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced on Monday, that a jury found 37-year-old William T. Bergeron guilty of the highest count in the indictment against him.

After a four-day trial, the jury deliberated for less than an hour before convicting Bergeron of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child (Class “A-II” felony) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class “A” misdemeanor).

Between August 15, 2018, and July 13, 2020, Bergeron, a registered sex offender at the time, engaged in two or more acts of sexual conduct against a child at a location in Cheektowaga.

The defendant knowingly acted in a manner likely injurious to the same child victim’s physical, mental, or moral welfare. Bergeron was known to the victim.


Bergeron is set to be sentenced before State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges on Thursday, May 25, at 9:30 a.m. He could face a maximum of 25 years to life in prison and continues to be held without bail. A temporary order of protection for the victim remains in effect.


District Attorney Flynn commended Detective Tim Turnbull of the Cheektowaga Police Department for his work in the investigation.
