NEW YORK – A Jewish woman in New York reported a hate crime after a man threw a concrete slab through her window after reportedly seeing her Israeli flag, according to CBS.

The woman, Rochelle, who lives in the Bronx, said that the incident was a “hate crime” and happened while she was getting ready for Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath, on Friday, according to CBS News. Rochelle said that she saw a man outside her second-story window with something in his hands.

“I noticed a young man crossing, from the corner of my eye, holding something in the back,” Rochelle told CBS News. “I actually just froze for a split second and stood there because there were shards of glass on my sweatshirt.”

Rochelle reportedly had footage of the incident showing the man throwing the piece of concrete through her window, which barely missed her, according to CBS News. She reported the incident to the police, saying that the man had targeted her because she had an Israeli flag and stickers displayed in the window.

“This was a hate crime,” Rochelle told CBS News.

An NYPD spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the investigation, led by the “Hate Crimes Unit,” was “ongoing” and that the department had not made an arrest yet.

“On Friday, April 7, 2023 … at approximately 1445 hours there is a complaint report on file for criminal mischief within the confines of the 49th Precinct,” the spokesperson said. “The report states an unknown suspect intentionally damaged a victim’s window by throwing a rock. [The] sign in the window stated, ‘Wherever we stand, we stand with Israel.’”
