Hometown kid hits first Major League Baseball home run

NEW YORK, NY – Delbarton High School graduate and New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe hit his first major league home run Friday night. The hit came in the bottom of the first inning with Volpe in the Yankees leadoff spot against the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium.

Volpe took a 1-0 pitch deep into the left-field bleachers from Louis Varland.

After playing high school baseball at Delbarton School in New Jersey, Anthony was drafted by the New York Yankees in the first round of the 2019 MLB draft. He was thrilled to be picked by his hometown team.

In 2021, Anthony was promoted to the Yankees’ Double-A team, the Somerset Patriots. He was excited to play at a higher level and determined to continue improving his game. Anthony’s hard work and dedication caught the attention of the Yankees’ coaching staff, and they invited him to participate in their spring training camp in 2022.


He made his Major League debut last June against the Royals and has been a starter for the team in the 2023 season.
