NEWARK, NJ – Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé has requested the public’s help in identifying a male suspect involved in a robbery on Thursday. At around 6:45 p.m., a man in the 200 block of Bergen Street was approached by the suspect, who snatched the victim’s gold chain and threw him to the ground.

The suspect then grabbed the handle of a weapon hidden in his waistband before entering a green, four-door vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Detectives describe the suspect as a 5’8″ tall, 230-pound male with a muscular build, dark-brown complexion, mustache, slight beard, and wearing glasses, green shorts, a logoed shirt, and white sneakers.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
