GAITHERSBURG, MD – The Maryland Lottery has announced another big instant lottery winner this week.

A Gaithersburg man has won $100,000 on a Gold x50 scratch-off purchased at Safeway #1620 at 20211 Goshen Road.

The 66-year-old routinely buys lottery tickets when he goes grocery shopping and this time, his ritual paid off. The man purchased three of the $10 scratch-offs and his third ticket was the winner.

“The last one I scratched was the winner. I guess I saved the best for last,” he said.

This isn’t the man’s first lottery win. He won a smaller prize in another scratch-off game in 2021. Interestingly, the winning number he matched this time was “19” while the winning number in his previous win was “17”.

The man, a retired transit worker, said most of his winnings will help pay off his daughter’s college loans. “The wife and I might split the rest on home improvement projects,” he added.

Safeway #1620, the grocery store that sold the winning ticket, will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning scratch-off. The Gold x50 scratch-off arrived in stores in January, and seven more $100,000 top prizes are still waiting to be won.
