BALTIMORE, MD – A Baltimore woman turned her IRS tax bill into a financial windfall this week.

Tax season can be a stressful time for many Americans, especially those who owe the government money.

However, for one Baltimore woman, owing the IRS $1,997 turned out to be her lucky break. The woman, who chose the nickname “Engineer,” used the number as inspiration and won $50,000 in the Pick 5 lottery.

“Engineer” purchased a $1 straight bet ticket at Royal Farms #016 in Glen Burnie, choosing the number 19997 for the April 14 midday and evening drawings. The lucky winner said she rarely plays Pick 5 and this was her first time playing 19997. “I don’t know why I decided to play, but something told me to play,” she added.

The next morning, “Engineer” checked her phone and was amazed to discover that her number was drawn the previous evening. “I couldn’t believe that number hit. It was incredible,” she said. The 62-year-old plans to use her prize money to pay bills and continue going on trips to local wineries and escape rooms with her family.

Royal Farms #016, the retailer where “Engineer” purchased her winning ticket, will also receive a $500 bonus from the lottery.
