Howard County police officer steering wheel locks to certain Hyundai and Kia owners

Jeff Jones

The Howard County Police Department offers free steering wheel locks to residents who own certain models of Hyundai and Kia cars. The initiative is aimed at preventing car theft in the area targeting those vehicles.

According to the announcement, drivers of 2016-2021 Hyundai and 2011-2021 Kia cars without proximity keys (key fobs) are eligible to receive the free steering wheel lock. To receive the lock, drivers need to bring their license and registration to either the Northern District or Southern District of the Howard County Police District Station.

The free steering wheel locks are available while supplies last, thanks to the grant funding from the Maryland Vehicle Theft Prevention Council. The locks will be distributed in the lobby of the two police stations mentioned above.

Car theft is a serious concern in Howard County and the wider Maryland area. The Howard County Police Department has previously warned residents about the increase in car thefts and encouraged them to take necessary precautions to protect their vehicles. Installing a steering wheel lock is one such precaution that can deter car thieves.

This initiative is a part of the department’s efforts to increase car security in the area and prevent car theft.
