Deadline extended for Howard County Police Dept. summer youth programs

The Howard County Police Department has announced that it has extended the deadline for two of its free summer programs for youths. The Youth Police Academy (YPA) and the P.L.E.D.G.E. Summer Leadership Camp are both available to students who are looking for unique experiences this summer.

The YPA is a one-week overnight camp that is open to 15-18-year-olds who are interested in learning more about the life of a police officer. The campers will undergo training similar to that of a police academy, while also exploring potential career paths, leadership opportunities, and life skills.

The P.L.E.D.G.E. Summer Leadership Camp, on the other hand, is a one-week day-camp that is available for students entering the 9th grade. The camp aims to develop leadership skills before entering high school by providing lessons and activities that challenge participants to make critical decisions, focus on core beliefs and values, recognize diversity, and work towards a common goal.

Both programs are completely free of charge, and the applications for the programs are available on the Howard County Police Department website at https://www.howardcountymd.gov/police/youth-programs. The deadline for applications has been extended to May 15th.

The programs provide an excellent opportunity for youths to learn new skills, explore potential career paths, and meet new people. Interested students and parents are encouraged to visit the website and complete the application process before the May 15th deadline.
