Cumberland woman charged after making 30 calls to 911, fleeing police

CUMBERLAND, MD Yesterday, Starasia Leslie Smith, 20, was arrested after making thirty emergency 911 calls within a 24-hour period and hanging up each time without providing any information to dispatchers. Officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to Smith’s residence multiple times but were met with resistance as she refused to speak to officers or identify herself.

As a result, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

When officers attempted to serve the warrant on the specified date, Smith continued to refuse to comply and actively resisted arrest.


She attempted to pull away from and escape the officers, but was eventually taken into custody. Smith was taken before the District Court Commissioner for her initial appearance and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center.

She is currently being held on a $1,000 bond and faces charges that include telephone misuse, false statements, harassment, obstructing and hindering, resisting arrest, and obstructing and hindering.
