Passenger punches driver causing serious crash

CUMBERLAND, MD – A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 68 near Willowbrook Rd occurred on Saturday when an argument between two occupants of the vehicle escalated into a physical altercation.

The driver, identified as Blaine Nehron Powell, 57, of McClellandtown, PA, was assaulted by the passenger, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and become disabled.

The Cumberland City Police responded to the scene and, following an investigation, arrested Powell on charges of 2nd Degree Assault.

He was transported to Police Headquarters and later released on his own recognizance after appearing before the District Court Commissioner.
