Seaford Man Arrested for Felony Shoplifting at Coach Outlet in Rehoboth Beach

REHOBOTH BEACH, DE – The Delaware State Police have arrested 34-year-old Steven Cornish of Seaford, Delaware, for felony shoplifting and other offenses after stealing numerous handbags valued at over $3,700 from the Coach Outlet located at 34986 Midway Outlet Drive in Rehoboth Beach. The incident occurred on Saturday, around 6:44 p.m. when troopers responded to a call regarding a shoplifting that had just taken place.

Cornish fled the scene in a white Dodge Caravan, which was later located by troopers on patrol in Greenwood. Troopers found the vehicle parked at the Valero gas station at 12712 Sussex Highway. Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Steven Cornish, troopers observed signs of impairment and smelled marijuana.

Cornish’s passenger, a 30-year-old man who required adult support for his mental health diagnoses, was also present in the vehicle. Cornish was the designated caretaker for the man at the time of the incident. The stolen handbags were recovered from inside the caravan.


Cornish was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 5, where he was charged with the following offenses: shoplifting over $1,500 (Felony), reckless endangering second degree, crime against a vulnerable adult (Felony), driving under the influence of drugs, and driving while suspended or revoked. Cornish was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $4,500 cash bond.
