Man arrested for fraudulent check worth $4,000

UTICA, NY – On March 28, 2023, the Utica Police Department was contacted by a local construction company and advised that an unknown individual had created fraudulent business checks and begun to cash them at various financial institutions around the area. One check totaling nearly $4,000 was cashed at a bank in Utica. The individual who received the money provided identification and signed the rear of the check with his true name.

An investigator with the Criminal Investigations Division was assigned the case based on the circumstances and amount stolen. Yesterday, with the assistance of the Syracuse Police Department, Kevin Walburger, age 21 of Syracuse, was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree x2 and Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree x2. Additional investigations from neighboring jurisdictions are still ongoing.
