ST. MARY’S COUNTY, MN – A baby barred owl fledgling was rescued and re-nested after being found on the side of the road by a concerned citizen last Sunday night in St. Mary’s County. The citizen searched for the owl for two hours and found it unharmed.
The Maryland Natural Resources Police Reserve Officers responded and transported the bird to the Owl Moon Raptor Center, where it was assessed to be healthy.
Thanks to the assistance of local tree service Latham Forestry, a makeshift nest was created, and the baby owl was placed safely 20+ feet in the air. T
he following day, the owl’s parents were seen by the side of the nest. The rescue was deemed a great community effort, with a happy ending. Without the actions of the concerned citizen, reserve officers, and forestry service, the fledgling may not have survived.
