GLOUCESTER TWP, NJ – With warm weather arriving, that means motorcycle riders will be driving around the area, taking in the nice weather and beautiful South Jersey landscapes.

The Gloucester Township Police Department is reminding motorists to “Look Twice- Save A Life” as May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. As the weather warms up, more motorcyclists will hit the roads, making it important for all drivers to be vigilant.

The police department offers tips for motorists to help keep everyone safe on the roadways. These include observing all traffic laws and yielding to motorcyclists, especially when turning at intersections. Distractions should be avoided when interacting with motorcyclists, and drivers should remember that motorcycles are smaller than most vehicles, making them more difficult to see.

It is important to give motorcycles the full width of a lane at all times since they have the same rights on the road as any other motorist. Additionally, drivers should always use a turn signal when changing lanes or merging with traffic. When seeing a motorcycle with a signal on, drivers are advised to proceed with caution since motorcycle signals are often non-canceling, and the rider may have forgotten to turn it off.

By following these tips and being aware of the presence of motorcycles on the road, drivers can help prevent accidents and save lives. Remember to “Look Twice- Save A Life.”
