GREENSBURG, PA – On Wednesday, a Westmoreland County jury convicted 55-year-old Trafford resident Alfred Tournay on 12 of 15 counts. The charges stem from a brutal assault that took place in December 2020. Tournay was found guilty of aggravated assault, multiple counts of simple assault, burglary with a person present, and terroristic threats.
Tournay’s estranged girlfriend at the time of the assault testified that he had kicked in her bedroom door and began kicking her in the face.
Neighbors across the street discovered the victim outside, bleeding, and offered help when Tournay verbally attacked them before breaking into their home and assaulting the husband and wife. The homeowners were punched, and one was beaten with a cane by Tournay.
After more than four hours of deliberation, jurors returned a guilty verdict on 12 of the 15 counts. Tournay is expected to be sentenced in 90 days. Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli expressed gratitude to the jury for their time and consideration and praised the police who investigated the violent assault, Assistant District Attorney Adam Barr for his dedication to the case, and the victims for their bravery in testifying.
The case took place in Greensburg, and further updates are expected after the sentencing.
