ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – A male threatening to harm himself was safely disarmed by officers from the Atlantic City Police Department (ACPD) on Thursday.

According to the ACPD, patrol officers arrived at the scene on the 100 block of South Missouri Avenue at approximately 11:27 PM, where they found the 29-year-old male holding a razor blade to his neck.

Sergeant Daniel Arra, a member of the Atlantic City Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team, arrived at the scene and engaged the male in dialogue while keeping him calm.

However, the male demanded that the officers shoot him and started walking towards them despite their orders to stop. Officer Louis Scarlata used a non-lethal taser to briefly incapacitate the male, allowing the officers to disarm him.

The male was then taken by ambulance to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for further evaluation and treatment. No injuries were reported, and the male was ultimately unharmed.
