NEW YORK, NY – Outside the 23rd Street and 7th Avenue subway station in Manhattan sits the iconic Flatiron building and Madison Square Park, both tourist draws in the city. On Sunday, however, a man inside the station was attacked, slashed by a knife, and robbed while waiting for a subway train.

The New York City Police Department now seeks the public’s help in identifying an individual connected to the attempted robbery that took place at around 1 am on Sunday.

According to police, an unidentified male assaulted a 42-year-old male victim on the southbound ‘1’ train platform at the 23 Street and 7 Avenue station.

The attacker demanded the victim’s wallet and punched him in the face, causing him to fall. He then brandished a knife and slashed the victim’s hand before fleeing the scene without any belongings of the victim.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital by Emergency Medical Services for treatment of his injuries. The suspect was last seen wearing a long green jacket, brown boots, and a black baseball cap.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts or identity is requested to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers. The public can also submit their tips on the CrimeStoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/ or on Twitter @NYPDTips. The NYPD has urged the public to come forward with any information they might have that could aid in the investigation.
