PORT DEPOSIT, MD – A suspect is in custody after a Maryland State trooper and two deputies from the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office were shot while responding to a burglary in Cecil County.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Daniel Padraig Colin Donnelly of Elkton, has been recently charged with multiple counts, including three counts of attempted first- and second-degree murder, three counts of first- and second-degree assault, first-degree burglary, and reckless endangerment.
The injured officers were taken to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, and the University of Maryland Harford Memorial for treatment.
All three officers have been released after receiving medical treatment for their injuries sustained during the shooting.
The incident began when the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a neighbor about a burglary in progress at a residence on Twin Lakes Drive in Port Deposit. After shots were fired by the suspect, striking the officers, the suspect fled into a nearby wooded area. No shots were fired by the deputies or troopers on the scene.
A manhunt ensued, involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Maryland State Police Special Tactical Assault Team Element (STATE) Team, Homicide Unit, K-9, Aviation, and the Criminal Enforcement Division. Donnelly was apprehended after police received a call about a suspicious man at a convenience store in Port Deposit, approximately ¾ mile from the scene of the shooting.
