East Flatbush Man Receives 15 Years to Life Sentence for Killing Brooklyn Rapper

BROOKLYN, NY – A local resident of East Flatbush, 30-year-old Quanell Offley, has been recently sentenced to 15 years to life for the 2013 murder of the aspiring Brooklyn rapper Kenneth Dunn, known by his stage name “KJ Balla.”

The sentencing comes after a tumultuous court case that saw the rapper’s family, friends, and supporters seeking justice for Dunn’s untimely death.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced Offley’s sentencing, affirming the court’s commitment to holding offenders accountable.


Offley was convicted in March of 2023 following a jury trial of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The incident that led to Dunn’s death took place in the late evening of November 23, 2013, in the vicinity of East 52nd Street and Clarkson Avenue in East Flatbush. According to trial testimony, Offley confronted Dunn, who was 22 at the time, and shot him once in the chest. The budding rapper was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Dunn, known by his stage name KJ Balla, was a rising star in the Brooklyn music scene.

His death sent shockwaves through the local community, with many mourning the loss of his talent and potential. Dunn’s family expressed their relief at the sentencing, hoping it would bring some closure to the tragic event.
