BROOKLYN, MD – On Thursday, a 19-year-old woman and a 15-year-old male juvenile were arrested and charged with assault and hate crime charges after throwing a cup of gasoline at a man and shouting homophobic slurs.

The victim was walking towards his residence when a vehicle occupied by several people that he recognized drove past him.

The vehicle made a U-turn and drove back in his direction. As the vehicle neared the victim, one of the occupants yelled his name. As the victim turned towards the vehicle, the rear-seat passenger leaned out of the open window and threw a cup of gasoline at him.

The victim was hit by the cup, and the liquid splashed onto his clothing.

The suspect then threw a lit object in the direction of the victim but did not hit him.

The suspect shouted a homophobic slur at the victim as the vehicle drove away. Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle later in the evening and detained the driver and rear-seat passenger.

Both suspects were positively identified as being involved in the incident as described by the victim. The police charged both suspects with assault and hate crime charges.

The 19-year-old woman was identified as Adriana Zambrano, and the 15-year-old male juvenile was not identified due to their age.
