Georgetown man killed in crash on Route 9

Georgetown, DE – On Saturday evening, Delaware State Police responded to a fatal single-vehicle collision in the Georgetown area. The incident took place on May 13, 2023, at around 5:02 p.m., on Lewes-Georgetown Highway, (Route 9), just west of Fawn Lane.

According to authorities, a 2020 Ford Eco Sport driven by a 27-year-old man from Georgetown, was traveling westbound on Route 9 when it suddenly exited the north edge of the roadway and began to rotate in a clockwise direction as it continued in a northwesterly direction.

The vehicle then crashed into a large tree off the roadway, resulting in the driver’s side sustaining the impact.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, and authorities are withholding the identity of the victim pending notification of the next of kin.


The Lewes-Georgetown Highway was closed at Fawn Lane for about three hours as the crash was investigated and the roadway cleared.
