BALTIMORE, MD – According to the Maryland Lottery, a resident of Baltimore, who prefers to be identified as “Jewel,” is now looking forward to a more secure retirement after winning $100,000 in Powerball on Mother’s Day weekend.

Jewel didn’t check her $20 ticket for a win until Sunday when she used the Maryland Lottery app on her smartphone. She was initially in disbelief when she discovered her third-tier win in the May 13 drawing.

“I’ve been playing for years, and I didn’t expect to win this much,” Jewel said. Excited about her Lottery luck, the 68-year-old immediately called her brother and mother to share the good news.

When asked about her plans for the prize, Jewel expressed her intention to ensure her mother and brother are taken care of since family is her top priority.

She also mentioned treating herself to something nice and focusing on her happiness. Jewel enjoys playing various lottery games, including Powerball, Multi-Match, Cash4Life, and Mega Millions, which bring her entertainment.

As a regular player, Jewel had her own set of numbers that she played and added the Power Play option to her ticket. The Power Play 2X multiplier in the drawing doubled her $50,000 third-tier prize. She purchased the lucky ticket at the Soda Pop Shop located at 1026 Ingleside Avenue in Catonsville, her preferred spot for buying lottery tickets in Baltimore County.
