Calvert County woman wins $50k in Powerball drawing

DUNKIRK, MD – A woman from Calvert County had a surreal experience when she scanned her Powerball ticket from the April 29 drawing and discovered she had won $50,000. Despite her initial skepticism, the 46-year-old, who chose the nickname “Stella Bell” to recount her winning story, remained in a state of disbelief even as she claimed her prize at the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

For “Stella Bell,” scanning her ticket only raised more questions rather than providing answers. She did not provide her real name for reasons of privacy.

“Every time I scanned the ticket, it showed ‘winner,’ but it didn’t display the amount. It was getting really frustrating,” she recalled. Seeking clarity, she approached a Lottery kiosk in the store and scanned the ticket once more, revealing her $50,000 win. Her annoyance swiftly transformed into overwhelming joy. Given that she rarely wins, she found herself in a state of shock.

The winning ticket was purchased at Wawa #573, located at 10245 Kirksville Lane in Dunkirk. “Stella Bell” has practical plans for her newfound wealth, including paying off bills, settling the remaining balance on her car loan, and undertaking much-needed home renovations
