BROOKLYN, NY – Tyrique Rushing, a 25-year-old man from the Bronx, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun. The charges include first-degree attempted murder, first-degree criminal sexual act, and first-degree burglary. According to the investigation, Rushing, along with two co-defendants, broke into a home in Marine Park in 2018, assaulted the elderly residents, and stole their property. Rushing’s co-defendants, Lance Jyrkenin and Shirnel Sobers, previously pleaded guilty to their charges and were sentenced to 12 years and nine years in prison respectively.

On the evening of September 24, 2018, Jyrkenin and Sobers invaded the home of a retired 72-year-old police lieutenant and his 71-year-old wife, residing in Marine Park. They made off with cash and the couple’s Honda Civic, which was later discovered abandoned in Lower Manhattan.

On October 8, 2018, at approximately 4 a.m., the same home was targeted again. This time, Rushing joined Jyrkenin and Sobers in the home invasion. The elderly couple was bound with duct tape in separate rooms. The woman was forced by Rushing to perform a sexual act, while her husband received slashes to his face and head. The assailants stole cash, a set of speakers, a Bank of America card, and again, the couple’s Honda Civic.
