QUEENS, NY – Nathaniel Johnson, a 57-year-old man from Long Island City, has been recently indicted by a grand jury and arraigned for murder and other charges in connection with the stabbing death of a 37-year-old man and assault on the victim’s sister.

The incident occurred in Astoria in June 2020 after a verbal dispute between Johnson’s wife and the victims.

Johnson now faces charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is due to return to court on July 12, and if convicted, Johnson could face 50 years to life in prison.

The altercation occurred on June 7, 2020, when Johnson’s wife called him to a store after an argument with the victims, Romeo Bartley and his sister Amalia Bartley. Johnson, armed with a knife, stabbed Romeo Bartley in the chest and assaulted his sister. Romeo Bartley later died due to his injuries, while Amalia Bartley survived and identified Johnson from a photo array. Johnson was extradited to New York from Boston.
