Pennsylvania Lottery Player Strikes Gold in Maryland, Takes Home Over $1 Million in Winnings

BALTIMORE, MD- Over the past decade, a Pennsylvania resident has amassed more than $1 million in Lottery winnings from Maryland, and despite the frequency of his wins, each one continues to surprise him. His most recent shock came last Friday when he scratched off a $50,000 top prize on the popular $20 scratch-off game. Remarkably, this is the second time he has won $50,000 playing the same game.

Due to his construction work frequently taking him to Maryland, the 53-year-old resident of Hanover finds many opportunities to see the Lottery options south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

“I buy a ticket or two at least once a week, either at home or down here,” he explained. “But all my Lottery luck seems to be in Maryland.”

The lucky winner discovered his latest prize at Highs #114, located at 15303 Hanover Pike in Upperco. “I choose scratch-offs randomly,” he shared. “I picked out three, including the $50,000 Cash ticket.”

After scratching off the tickets, he scanned each one to check for a win. Disappointed with the first two as non-winners, he prepared to throw out the third, assuming it would meet the same fate. However, as he was about to toss it into the trash, he noticed a message on the scanner.

Excited, thinking he might have won one of the game’s smaller prizes, he continued scratching off the remaining ticket, stating, “I thought maybe I’d won $5,000. Since I had won the top prize just last month, I didn’t even consider the possibility of it being $50,000.”

The Highs location will earn a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

“The $50,000 Cash game debuted in December with an unusually large number of top prizes – 160,” stated lottery officials. “Subtracting the Hanover man’s two wins, 110 top prizes remain unclaimed along with 119 of the game’s $5,000 second-tier prizes.”
