NYC college professor threatened reporter with machete, report

New York, NY – A former adjunct assistant professor at Hunter College in New York City is currently under investigation by the New York Police Department after she brandished a machete and threatened a reporter, according to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Shellyne Rodriguez, who gained attention earlier this month for berating pro-life students on campus, confronted New York Post reporter Reuven Fenton at her apartment door. The incident, captured on video, showed Rodriguez holding the weapon to Fenton’s neck before following him outside, still wielding the machete.

The New York Post reported that Rodriguez could potentially face assault charges, but the NYPD has not confirmed any specific charges at this time.

In response to the incident, Hunter College swiftly took action and terminated Rodriguez from her position. Vince DiMiceli, the Assistant VP of Communications at Hunter College, stated, “Hunter College strongly condemns the unacceptable actions of Shellyne Rodriguez, and has taken immediate action. Rodriguez has been relieved of her duties at Hunter College effective immediately, and will not be returning to teach at the school.”

The confrontation between Rodriguez and the pro-life students occurred on May 2, with Rodriguez allegedly accusing them of distributing propaganda. She reportedly knocked fetal models and information cards off their table. According to the Students for Life of America (SFLA), the pro-life advocacy group represented by the students, Rodriguez stated that they were “triggering” her students.

The Daily Caller News Foundation reached out to Hunter College for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.
