Arrests Made in Connection with Stolen Semi-Automatic Rifle

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – A 28-year-old man from Silver Spring, Humberto Guerra Jr., was arrested by the 5th District – Community Action Team of Montgomery County Department of Police, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Guerra Jr. had two outstanding criminal warrants from a traffic stop that took place on Friday, February 17, 2023, where an AR-15 was recovered, later identified as stolen from Alexandria, VA.

Officers also observed Maria Argueta, 29, also from Silver Spring, along with Guerra Jr. and three others, get into a Grey Honda CR-V at a 7-11 in Germantown. Argueta had an outstanding warrant for burglary from March 4, 2022. Both Guerra Jr. and Argueta initially provided false identities to the officers. Upon exiting the car, a semi-automatic pistol with a destroyed serial number was found in plain view on the rear passenger seat.

Additional arrests from the vehicle included Khyarah Hazel Taylor, 24, of Gaithersburg, seated next to the firearm, and Myles Bennette, 29, of Baltimore, who had an active warrant. Guerra Jr., Argueta, and Taylor were charged with providing false statements, possession of controlled dangerous substances, and firearm-related charges. Bennette was transported to the Central Processing Unit due to his active warrant.
