Brooklyn Man Arrested, Charged with Attempted Burglary

NEW YORK CITY, NY – Recep Akbiyik, a 29-year-old male from Brooklyn, was arrested and charged on Friday, in the 17th Precinct. The charges against Akbiyik include attempted burglary, criminal possession of a weapon (two counts), making terroristic threats, criminal mischief, and menacing (two counts).

The arrest follows a separate incident that happened earlier in the week. On Monday, an unidentified man vandalized the Turkish Consulate at 821 1st Avenue. The perpetrator, captured on security footage, struck multiple windows with a large crowbar, causing significant damage.

Described as a 30-year-old male with a light complexion, the individual escaped the scene heading southbound on 1st Avenue. The New York City Police Department encourages anyone with information about this crime to reach out to the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
