Fatal Vehicle Collision under Investigation in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, DE – A fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Warwick Road south of Middleneck Road is currently under investigation by the Delaware State Police. The collision occurred on Thursday evening, at around 8:18 pm. Involved in the incident were a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Mercury Grand Marquis.

According to the initial investigation, the two vehicles collided head-on near the solid double yellow lines. Details on which direction both vehicles were traveling and which crossed over into the oncoming lane before the collision remain unclear.

The occupants of the Jeep, a 57-year-old woman and a 63-year-old woman, both from Virginia Beach, Virginia, were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Mercury, a 24-year-old man from Townsend, Delaware, was also taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the Mercury, a 24-year-old man from Middletown, Delaware, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His identification is pending notification to his family.

Following the incident, the roadway was closed for approximately seven hours to facilitate the investigation and clear the scene.
