New Jersey child case worker took advantage of women in the system

TRENTON, NJ – Former Department of Children and Families (DCF) case worker Gilberto Ortiz, 53, of Woodbury, pleaded guilty on May 16, to second-degree pattern of official misconduct. Ortiz is accused of making unwanted sexual advances towards women under DCF investigation or supervision and attempting to coerce them into unwanted sexual conduct.

Under the plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend a five-year prison sentence with no parole eligibility.

Ortiz is also banned from holding public office and public employment in New Jersey for life. Ortiz’s sentencing is scheduled for July 14, in Camden County Superior Court before Judge David M. Ragonese.
