Police ask public for help in department store robbery cases

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – Detectives from the Major Crimes Division of the Montgomery County Department of Police are currently investigating two thefts committed by seven suspects at different department stores. The suspects reportedly used a stolen black Kia to carry out these crimes.

On Friday, April 28, 2023, 2nd District officers attended to a theft report at Sephora in the 5300 block of Western Ave., Chevy Chase. It was revealed that the group of suspects walked into the store, filled shopping bags with merchandise, and left without paying. They were then observed leaving the scene in the said Kia with a Washington, D.C. license plate GC-5918.

The following day, on Saturday, April 29, 2023, officers responded to a similar report at the Target store located in the 6800 block of Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda. Detectives have established that the same suspects entered the store, stole an unspecified amount of merchandise, and once again left in the black Kia with the same license plate.
